I am also in the Knoxville area (Powell, TN). I am about 2 miles off of 75n, Exit 117 Raccoon Valley Rd. I live out in the country on 5 acres. I have 4 dogs (they are very much family members). I also have a garden and chickens. I build things with pallets and pallet wood. I have built a tiny house with pallets and salvaged material. It is not totally finished on the inside, but the outside is complete and I have also ran electricity and water to the tiny house, garden, chicken coop, and my shop (3 car detached garage). I have built a mancave in the shop. I have a sink made from a sterlite storage container, and the mancave is built totally from pallets/pallet wood. I stain my wood with a mixture of used motor oil and diesel. I am working on a lean to on the back of the garage. In the back of my place right along the tree line, when the lightning bugs are out, it looks like a fireworks show. It is beyond amazing. If you do get to this area, you are welcome to park here, or on that exit that I live off of, there is a VERY nice RV park that you can stay at. That is where my mom stays when she comes into town and she says it is one of the nicest she has seen. You can check out some of my creations on Pinterest. Everything I have pinned, except for brainstorming area, were created by be.

Second, please do your research and know what your talking about before talking negative about something. Please google wood stain with used motor oil and diesel. Diesel ignites by compression and not spark, and have you ever dropped a cigarette in motor oil. It may smoke a little but smothers the cigarette out. Pretty much anything is flammable if you apply enough heat to it. This mixture has been used for many many years by farmers for their barns, wood floors, outside fencing, fence post, and etc. I myself have used it for several years without any issues such as being any type of fire hazard and after about a week, there is no smell. If anything, the fumes from all these stains sold in stores is a lot stronger than the motor oil/diesel mixture. Also, it is repurposing something.

When I first heard of it, I also got that really creepy feeling. I did not mean to come across so gruff, but once you use it and compare it to the stuff from the stores, you would understand.
