1. If you may not be present for the inspection, pass on the inspector. I want to be there and ask questions.
2. Make sure they inspect the exhaust manifold for cracking and bolt/stud breakage. This is a problem on both Ford and Chevrolet models, and the good remedy is a Banks Power Pack aftermarket exhaust. Not sure how this affects smog requirements in California (where I live) but I’ve done a lot of reading and I believe it is a good idea to install the Banks kit BEFORE problems happen.
I used to fly and I did a fairly thorough (more what what the Pilot’s Operating Handbook calls for) preflight inspection every time. I only got stranded once (bad magneto) and I cancelled trips a few times because in my inspection, I discovered no-go maintenance items.
Getting stuck in BFE with a bad manifold and a disabled engine will do nothing for my
digestion.
Pippi, you own a Bounder (I’m looking at buying one, 96-2001). What are the failure modes you’ve found on your coach in the engine compartment? Any information will be gratefully accepted. OM
