Hello All! My name is D.J. and I’m new to the forum, as well as RV, and trailer living. After living month to month and paycheck to paycheck paying for what I deem as way overpriced rent and being in the hole $500 each month I am considering the full-time RV/trailer living. That fact that I live in FL and have many campgrounds to choose from in this area may help make this easier for me. If anyone has any tips, tricks, or general advice they would like to volunteer and share I would be very thankful for it. I am currently in the process of trying to decide rv or trailer, what particular rv or trailer should I get, should I get a more beat up one and gut it? slightly used and remove certain things? turnkey used? etc. I am also trying to determine where am I going to park it/ live in it. I have five months before my apt lease is up so I figured now would be a good time to figure out if this is for me. Thanks for letting me introduce myself and give a little blurb about why i’m here!

Welcome DJ, these are all good questions and five months is a great amount of time to begin because it could take a few months to actually make your purchase.

As for trailer vs RV, check out this thread which may be the most popular thread and question people ask:

If you are going to be parked mostly, I’d strongly suggest a trailer as you wont need to maintain the engine. Next consider the weight of it if you already have a truck. It’d be nice to be able to move it with what you already have.

And unless you have an itch to renovate and take on a lot of projects, I’d suggest skipping the renovations and try to get a turnkey one.

Also, call ahead to the parks in your area. Do they rent to people under 55 years of age? Do they allow monthly renters? How much do they cost a month? You may find $500 for an apartment may be cheaper than an RV community park. Do they allow rigs older than 1998? Just do your homework and don’t make assumptions.

Best of luck and enjoy the site!
