I’m getting close to starting a remodel on my kitchen. YAY and EXCITING! The laminate is coming off of the particle board of the counter tops. To stay cheap, I’m going to keep the current particle board, strip off the laminate and sand it down, paint it and then cover it with bright shiny pennies.
I’ve also got to replace the faucet since it leaks from the top. Also a new faucet will mean I can get a taller one affording me more space in the sink area for washing dishes.
And to tie it all together I’m going to paint the kitchen nook the color of clear, turquoise-blue, tropical waters.
I’m open to suggestions for some type of change to my dinette table top.
Stay tuned for a video on this! 😀

I meant for gluing it down maybe a quick drying mastic or just some form of epoxy glue. foreground I think I would use black or dark chocolate brown for contrast, or white or creamy yellow. Pippy there’s a clear coating called casting resin that fairly easy to use. The key to having a smooth bubble free top it using a propane torch to draw out the bubbles you can look up the process on YouTube, you can make a edge dam by getting 1/2″x 2″ wood strips sprey painting gloss enamal let them cure for a day, buy some real paste wax coat the painted strips at least 12 coats this will keep the resin from sticking to your border dam so when you remove them after the resin cures you will have a perfect edge. For your table top decoupage ads interest or your an artist do a painting then clear coat it with urathane or epoxy.

January 1, 2015 at 2:30 pm #294PippiKeymasterHi Bob, great ideas about the decoupage. I think I may end up doing something like that or painting something cool on it with polyurethane on top. However it still leaves the fragile wood a little less protected than the current laminate/formica top or if I were to put something like pennies on top…
I read about a women who put shells on her counter. Same idea as the pennies but just with shells instead. We’ll see. I’ve got a while before I start tackling that.
I’ve already got all the ‘fixins’ for the penny countertop. I should be good to start once I get a few other things in order first.

When it comes to kitchen renovation the first that comes to your mind is Budget. Before moving ahead you should set realistic budget. Because budget is very important thing. If you can’t do it yourself look for professional they help with the planning. For this you must Hire contractor or Remodeling consultant. Pippi can you share the image of that, so I can suggest you some better ideas as I have recently remodeled my kitchen and did a a lot of creativity there, so can suggest you some good tips to you too.
February 8, 2015 at 7:46 pm #483PippiKeymasterThe weight issue is definitely something to consider. More so for the flooring than the kitchen I’d say but important regardless.
Honestly I haven’t looked fully into it yet however I have removed a lot of weight already by tearing out furniture that was original. I also don’t travel with the allotted four persons. That saves extra space/weight.
Something to consider. Thanks for the thought. 🙂
March 29, 2015 at 2:40 pm #70896flrverParticipantOver a year ago I painted a kitchen counter top with the Gianni faux granite counter top paint. It turned out great and is very durable. I recommended it. I may use it on the rv soon.

I priced new wall panelling and it’s at least $80 per sheet plus $122 crating. Paint is a lot easier, cheaper, and probably will look better. Will need to prime to existing wall coverings first though.
I think the Pennys idea will look good for the inserts on a few of the cabinet doors. I need to order a few more cabinet doors for new found space and paint will allow me to use cheaper doors. The original cabinet doors are starting to fall apart. I thought about paint when I was sitting in Starbucks and thought the paint looked really nice.May 19, 2015 at 10:55 pm #780laurawhiteParticipantMy last year kitchen renovation was very interesting. Well, I just painted my kitchen counter top with the Gianni faux granite paint. For me, it looks really great and was very durable.
