When I bought my RV it was like the Varanasi of Mouse-dom, a hospice for mice when life got too tough out in nature. Little mouse droppings stuck to strands of carpet which even found their way to the window shades and tightly closed drawers. Having taken safety-awareness classes before certain ecological technician jobs on the severity and dangers of Hanta virus (a deadly disease carried by rodents in the southwest of the US which is transmitted through bodily fluids and even dried poop which when disturbed can emit poop dust and in turn get inhaled by humans infecting them and potentially condemning them to a slow, brutal death), I couldn’t satisfy myself enough on deep cleaning the floors by shampooing and literally using cans and cans of Lysol sprayed directly and all over every surface in my RV, carpet, walls, doors and drawers alike.

I’m pretty satisfied with the cleanliness of the floors since after more than a year, I’ve no signs of Hanta virus, however, I do feel it’s time for a little upgrade. Something that would match my new hip kitchen and reduce the need for vacuuming—a task which required me to lift my heavy queen-size open like the jaws of a great white shark and lift out the heavy upright vacuum while the bed rests on my bent-over back. Reducing vacuuming is one benefit along with the larger feel accomplished by adjoining the current three sections of different flooring to one solid, flowing look.

My floor choice—a faux wood laminate in the color called African Queen. Actually I think it was called African wood or pine something like that, but African Queen sounds WAY cooler and fits my lifestyle and Rhea Rada much better.

Stay tuned for a video on this! Or maybe it’ll be better done in a few videos, we’ll see!

Pippi to bad you don’t think about a Murphy bed it would open up floor space, to exercise, ect. Pine Pippi is a soft wood that scratches and gouges out. If its a vinyl faux wood strip floor that’s a different deal. I think if I remember right didn’t you make your mattress fit by sawing and end off, now that’s funny. The idea of being able to quickly sweep and mop out a Moho in minutes makes a lot of sense to me. Pippi do you have central vacuum system?. I have one and it makes it much easier believe me.

    Central vacuuming! That sounds nice!

Ya the new flooring is vinyl. The idea is to reduce the need to vacuum. Sweeping seems so much more efficient for me.

A murphy bed is a great idea but in practicality, I think I wouldn’t ever put it away. For now I’ll stick with my nice sawed mattress 😉

    Pippi,

Your videos are great! I just purchased my first RV (similar to yours) and excited to quit my job and change my lifestyle up a lot of a bit. Im sure you answered lots of questions on the blog and in the videos but I had some questions about flooring and the lifestyle in general that I was hoping I could bounce off you?? Is there some way I could message you??

    Thanks!

Hi, Pippi. My husband and I just purchased our first RV to live in full-time. We’re planning to save up to eventually buy some property/land. Your videos have been so encouraging to me. I love how your floors turned out! You’ve inspired me to do some renovations in our new 1997 Alpenlite 5th wheel. I’m definitely going to tear out that carpet..and I’ve got lots of ideas for the rest of the trailer. I’m a novice when it comes to handiwork. Your videos help a LOT! Thank you so much!! 😀
