Hi all
I’m totally new to this but here goes. I bought a 85 Dodge 250 conversion last spring. I haven’t had much chance to do much to it beacuse I was using it while I worked most of last year. I would like to get it to be a self standing unit as much as possible. The first thing is, I have a tent style pop up penthouse, it doesn’t have a bed up there. ( maybe that is another project.) Living in Canada I have no way of insulating a canvas top for the elements. I want to get a hard shell so I can mount solar etc on the roof as well as maybe an AC unit. I don’t have van specs off hand but I will update when I can. I’m just wondering if there is a brand of hard shells people can recommend.
I have a few projects for this unit but I and hopful this will be a great van for at least for the warmer months, with a few additions.
Im hoping to get some videos on youtube to show people and solicit helpful tips from veteran RVers. Still working on the editing process there.
Thanks to Pippi for getting this going.
I love your vids you always make me smile. All the best

Best of luck with it.
Do you really need AC in Canada? [mind boggled] 😉

The borders are so strict nw and if they strip my van when trying to cross i’m kinda screwed. It happened to a frend of mine a few years ago. As much as I would love to see America I’m not sure it is worth the trouble.
I got the van for a place to sleep when I work away from home. The Mrs. is not a good candidate for RVing full time. I would need a bigger rig for two of us and a dog. I want the hard shell so I can walk around the van with a little more comfort. If I’m parked the wind up penthouse is fine but it would be nice to not worry about it and just driving away.
I am in Southern Ontario so we do run the full gambit of temeratures here. AC is really on needed for the 3 months of summer. With the high humidity and basically sitting in a big metal box AC is a good thing. I have thought of the solar panels that can be set up outside the van. I’m toying with all the options right now but if I can get a hard shell then a roof mounted system would be good as well.
I’m think I will need a generator for AC anyway (yes/no???)March 22, 2015 at 8:04 am #673PippiKeymasterYeah, unless you have a wicked awesome solar setup with a lot of amps, you’ll need a generator for your AC.
Sounds like fun, best of luck to you guys 😀
