I was there 15 years go and it was a thriving self sufficient community. You didn’t have to worry about being attacked or mugged and you helped people out because you felt like it, not because someone was begging. At that time it was a sense of community. Everyone helped your fellow neighbor. And if you wanted to be left alone you camped on the outskirts and no one bothered you. I was away from there for a number of years and went back a year ago. I was shocked on how the quality of camping had degraded. Maybe the older I get. I’ve become more prejudiced. But the slabs looked trashy. There were some freakish looking people in one group that looked like leftovers from the filming of one of the movies like Escape from L A. It scared me enough that I just found the first place to do a u turn and left. I was so disapointed that it has crept into it’s present condition. 15 years ago you could take a hot shower in one of the collection conduits that was installed by the Army during world war 2. After the Army left the camp at the end of ww 2, someone had the forethought to channel the water from one of the hot springs to the conduit so anyone that wanted to partake could have a hot shower. Terrific engineering. Maybe its not as bad as what I observed, but it sure took my breath away this last visit. I still admire Leonard for his lifelong dream of building Leonard Mountain. God bless Leonard and I trust that he’s resting in Heaven now.

If you store for the winter, the disconnect switch for the coach should disconnect everything in the coach. If you are in an area where you get freezing weather, you might want to either plug in your shore cord to charge the batteries once a month. Leave it hooked up a couple of days so the batteries recharge. Don’t forget to turn the disconnect switch back on for those two days. Or you can put a trickle charge on them to keep them charged. Or if in really cold area, you can also get 110 v battry heaters for the batteries, like they have for diesel rigs. For the engine battery, you can get a disconnect switch from Harbor Freight to install on that battery so you can isolate it. It can be a good coach theft deterrent. All you do is bolt it on one of the battery posts and connect your cable to it. All it is is a knife switch that you flip up or down. You also have some drains on it from your radio for one thing. Good luck. Gary

Get a condo in Palm Springs…no maintenance. And you probably are already established with local doctors and your local haunts and friends. Unless you want a change of pace. Me I would prefer Big Bear Lake or somewhere in the trees around that area.

If you’buying an RV, buy it in Oregon. No tax
Also, while you’re there, establish youself as an Oregon resident. No personal tax on your earnings. Your mail would have to be sent there and you would pay for a mail forwarder. Some mail forwarderers also offer a service where they could open important mail, scan it and email it to you. They can also send your mail to you whereever you are. You can still use a local bank for transactions. Might be a good idea to have your retirement checks sent to a bank in Oregon. You can still visit your money like you do now. California also allows you to register your car for a partial year if you’re not there all year. ( they want that money)

Or if you need a propane tank, go to Home Depot or any like location and get a tank already filled and already certified. Just take them your empty tank so you don’t have to leave a deposit. Doesn’t matter if your old one doesn’t have their plastic banner on it. My tank sits ouside in the weather, so their plastic banner fell off after a month anyway. Gary

Be careful with compresses air. You can pump in more pressure than you figured on and you can fracture the tank. If you use compressed air, use only about 15 to 20 lbs. max. I would be more inclined to use a piece of mechanics wire up thru the drain tube. I can geto my tubing under the bed. If the mechanic wire didn’t break the dirt dobber nest loose, I would be more inclined to to hook an air line or water line up tonthe drain tube after the water tank. In the Bounders, the drain tube and pump is located thru an outside cabinet on the drivers side rear cabinet. Disconnect the tubing there and try the air or water pressure there. Gary
